Unless it’s a wisdom tooth, completely removing a tooth is never the ideal option, but sometimes it’s the necessary one. If the dentist does decide you need to get one or multiple teeth removed, the team at Brooklawn Dental Associates does everything possible to make the experience as painless and stress-free as possible.
Before anything, we will take X-rays to determine the best course of action. If an extraction is the only way to move forward, there are multiple methods to choose from based on the position and size of the tooth.
For simpler procedures, we use a tool called an elevator to lift the entire tooth out of the jawbone. Since we numb the area before the treatment, you won’t feel any pain. You will only sense a bit of pressure and hear a cracking sound as we remove it.
For more complicated issues or impacted wisdom teeth, we may need to break the tooth into smaller pieces and remove them one at a time.
After we’ve finished, your mouth will be sore for a few days as it heals. During this time, you should stay away from smoking, eating hard foods, and using straws.
If a dentist recommends a tooth extraction, it is highly likely there are no other options as the tooth is beyond saving. We will always consider every alternative before resorting to removing the tooth. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
